Task 5.2 “Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication” - How communication and CT will impact future role as a leader in the workplace
"Communication is key." is what we always hear and known in different aspect of life, be it from school, to work and even in relationships. Yet, how many of us actually follow through this quote and execute it?
In my opinion, I feel that communication alone may or may not lead to success but if it comes together with critical thinking it will be a different story. By thinking critically, we will be able to build a rational and open minded decision or judgement, eliminating bias opinions from our own emotions, etc. As I see it, being a leader means you will be leading a group of followers, and different followers will have different point of view. As their leader, we need to be able to accept all opinions and identify every pros and cons within them to determine the best solution, even though it might not satisfy everyone, but it will be a solution everyone will follow as it will be for the benefit of their common goal.
On the other hand, if we are unable to think critically and communicate our thoughts across to fellow followers, everyone would be unhappy with the decision as they would not understand why was it made. Hence, it will cost revenue lost, politics and attrition in the workplace. What is a leader without his followers?
